Importance of Computers for Students

It is your only companion these days. Without it you won’t be able to communicate with other people, you have the type of leisure you have today, and most important you might not be able to learn. Computers have changed the way we live and have provided us with a lot of benefits, especially in learning. Computers have allowed us to change the conventional way of learning and learn whatever we want whenever we want.

We have realized computers’ real importance in educational systems during the Covid-19 pandemic. With schools’ closure, people’s lives in danger, and social distancing, we are more than grateful for having computers. Today, computers are the student’s only hope to continue their education safely. Therefore, every student must know that their education relies on computers and his or her knowledge of using them, and if a student does not know how to use a computer, this will affect his or her education. For example, some students may have a computer, but they don’t know how to use it for educational systems, and this is a big obstacle in their learning process.

I suspect that in 10 years from now, or even less, most schools will only use computers and online learning. The pandemic played a major role in reducing the time it would take the educational systems to embrace online learning using computers. As a matter of fact, many schools all over the world had already taken a step toward using all computer-based learning. I see that we are in a very important evolution of the learning system as a whole, and as companies like Oculus are trying to focus on 3D reconstruction and mixed reality, most of our lives might be dependent on computers, or VRs. Having computer skills won’t be a choice for students anymore: it is a must that all students have advanced computer skills in order to get their education.

Computers simplify and expedite the learning process by providing students with tools and communication strategies that are not available offline. Students may, for example, review their grades or lesson plans online and connect with their teachers directly through email or educational platforms like Classera. Students may also submit work to their teachers from everywhere and their homes, helping them do tasks outside their school day, and by that way helping students and teachers focus on the important things during the school day.

I strongly advocate that students must have advanced computer skills, because not only it will help them with their education, but also with their future careers as most if not all jobs need computer skills. With everything happening nowadays, computers are getting more involved in our lives. Consequently, I think that schools must train students in computer use before anything else.
